Hawaii County escapee charged
Hawaii County authorities charged Jarvis Higa in connection with his escape from the Hawaii Community Correctional Center on Wednesday.
Higa, 35, is charged with escape in the first degree, kidnapping, second degree assault, second degree robbery, criminal property damage and car theft.
Higa is on of two men who escaped from the Hawaii Community Correctional Center.
A team of about 15 law enforcement officers captured him Friday at about 8:15 p.m. at a home in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision in Kau.
The other escapee, Ryan James Jeffries-Hamar, 31, remains at large.
Police began looking for Higa in Ocean View, a large subdivision just south of Manuka State Park, earlier Friday after receiving a tip.

Higa is being held at the Hilo Police Station without bail. He will likely be arraigned on his charges on Monday at Hilo District Court.

Higa and Jeffries-Hamar escaped from the Hilo jail Wednesday morning after overpowering and assaulting a corrections officer and taking off in the jail librarian’s car, police said.
