UH women 15th at sailing nationals
The University of Hawaii women’s sailing team moved up three spots on Friday to finish 15th in the Intercollegiate Sailing Association National Championship at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.
The Rainbow Wahine entered the final day of competition in last place among the 18 qualifiers. They finished with 414 points after seven races completed Friday, moving past Wisconsin, South Florida and Georgetown in the standings. Dartmouth claimed the title with 185 points.
UH’s Madeline Kennedy and Katrina Berry posted 168 points in the A Division over the two-day finals. Louise Currie, Annie Kelly and Cecilia Jansson finished with 246 points in the B Division.
UH’s coed sailing team will compete in the ICSA Coed National Championship hosted by St. Mary’s College of Maryland. The regatta is scheduled for June 3-6.
Porlier Langlois 46th in discus
UH junior Alex Porlier Langlois finished 46th in the preliminary round of the women’s discus at the NCAA West Regional Championships on Friday in Fayetteville, Ark.
Porlier Langlois had a throw of 142 feet, 1 inch. Shelbi Vaughn of Texas A&M had the top throw at 194 feet.
BYUH, HPU players named All-Americans
Three Hawaii Pacific men’s tennis players who were on the NCAA Division II runner-up team earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-America honors on Friday. Petr Michnev and Thibau Berland were both recognized for singles and doubles. Teammate Jaume Martinez was honored for singles. Brigham Young-Hawaii’s doubles team of Martin Chojnacki and Yevhen Zakharov were also named All-Americans.
Four BYUH women earned All-America honors. Recognized in singles and doubles were Nannan Zhang and Min Liu. Marietta Tuionetoa and Marika Kobayashi earned doubles honors.
