High surf advisory in effect for north, west-facing shores
A high surf advisory has been issued for the north- and west-facing shores of Oahu, Kauai and Niihau, the northern shores of Molokai and Maui, and the western shores of Hawaii island from 6 a.m. today to 6 p.m. Sunday.
The National Weather Service said a west-northwesterly swell would build Friday night and Saturday, and remain at advisory levels through the rest of the weekend.
Surf is expected to reach 10- 16 feet for north shores and 8-12 feet for western shores with peak surf sometime today.
Beachgoers are urged to stay out of the water and away from the shore break.
