Murder charge is downgraded to assault
A 21-year-old Makaha man was charged with attempted assault after he allegedly stabbed a man near McDonald’s restaurant in Waianae on Wednesday, police said.
Initially, Chad Hopoate Teisina III was arrested on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder Wednesday.
The call came in at about 2:10 p.m. off Farrington Highway near W Hardware & Lumber Supply Co. Emergency Medical Services on Wednesday said a 44-year-old man was slashed on his back, arm and chest. He was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
The charge was later reduced to first-degree attempted assault and first-degree robbery. Teisina’s bail was set at $100,000.
Teisina also has been arrested for theft in Nevada and convicted in 2012 of resisting an officer, possessing an open liquor container and consuming alcohol as a minor.
In Hawaii, Teisina pleaded guilty to two counts of petty misdemeanor fourth-degree theft in April and was sentenced to two days in jail.
