Bob Dylan, a towering figure in the history of rock ’n’ roll, has been booked for two concerts in Hawaii — April 26 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center and April 29 at Blaisdell Arena.
Tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. Saturday for the Blaisdell Arena show via Ticketmaster outlets and at the Blaisdell box office. MACC members can buy tickets for the Maui show beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, and tickets become available to the public March 1.
Dylan, 72, born Robert Allen Zimmerman, revolutionized the folk-music world of the early ’60s when his allusive, wordy songs captured the public’s imagination.
As an artist and pivotal historical character, he haunts the background in the 2013 black comedy "Inside Llewyn Davis," set in 1961; his song "Farewell" closes out the film. "Blowin’ in the Wind," released in 1963 and covered by Peter, Paul and Mary, was a No. 3 single for the trio and was adopted as an anthem of the civil rights movement.
Dylan electrified his music and the world by plugging in at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965, causing widespread controversy. But he continued to break down barriers, rising to the highest levels of popularity and critical acclaim.

His lyrical and experimental work in songs such as "Mr. Tambourine Man" is widely credited with influencing his musical peers, The Beatles, in that era.
Dylan has released 33 unique albums since 1962 in addition to compilations and greatest-hits collections; of those, 16 have been in the top 10 on the Billboard album charts. His latest album, 2012’s "Tempest," rose to No. 3.
"Every songwriter after him carries his baggage," U2’s Bono said in 2011 in a Rolling Stone tribute to Dylan.
Dylan’s 1997 song, "Make You Feel My Love," was released as a single in 2008 by Adele, in 1998 (as a No. 1 country charts single) by Garth Brooks and in 1997 by Billy Joel.
On Nov. 5, Legacy Recordings and Columbia Records released Dylan’s discography in a massive CD box set — "Bob Dylan Complete Album Collection Vol. 1."
Last week it was announced that "Dylan’s Gospel," a recording of Dylan’s music set to gospel arrangements with 27 of Los Angeles’ best backup singers of 1969, will be re-released April 1.
International concert promoter Marek Lieberberg and Hawaii-based promoter Ron Gibson are presenting the concert. Lieberberg issued a statement from his office in Germany: "We are proud to present an icon of popular music and culture. Don’t think twice, he’s alright."
