Kayakers run into trouble off Mokulua islands
An Ocean Safety Division watercraft crew rescued five kayakers who were in distress off the Mokulua islands on Tuesday.
The kayakers, five adult members of a family visiting from California, got caught in the surf, causing the kayaks to flip, said Shayne Enright, Honolulu Emergency Services Department spokeswoman.
The conditions were windy and the surf was choppy, she said.
The kayakers were brought by watercraft to shore in Lanikai. No medical treatment was needed.
Enright said ocean conditions should be checked with lifeguards before venturing out.
