Are you ready for some football, to end?
College football fans are all eagerly awaiting Monday’s FBS college football championship game in Arlington, Texas, on ESPN starting at 3 p.m. Hawaii’s special interest is St. Louis School graduate Marcus Mariota, who will be leading the Oregon Ducks, including five other Hawaii players on the team, against Ohio State.
But before Monday, there’s still one more bowl game to go (more an all-star game of sorts, really) — the Medal of Honor Bowl — starting at 9:30 a.m. today on NBCSN and featuring "some of the nation’s top draft-eligible college football players," according to its Website. That could be fun.
Also today is the FCS national championship, starting at 8 a.m. on ESPN2 and featuring Illinois State versus North Dakota State.
Whatever will we do when the college football season is finally over? Maybe the NFL playoffs will help.
Hawaii is known as a place to marry
Now that U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard has confirmed her engagement, it bears noting that weddings haven’t come along very often for members of the Hawaii delegation. Past congressional leaders have been older, and generally finished with taking that walk down the aisle.
But wait a minute: The last delegation wedding didn’t star any young whipper-snapper. It was actually the second marriage of the Senate’s most senior member, the late Dan Inouye, to Irene Hirano. That happened in 2008, two years after the death of his first wife, Maggie.
And those nuptials happened in Beverly Hills.
Weddings are lovely celebrations and everyone certainly wishes the congresswoman happiness in her marriage. No invitations expected, but it would be fun to see it happen in her home state. Is it pushy to ask?
