Teachers of hula, lei making and Japanese culture are among the 2015 Living Treasures of Hawai‘i Recognition Program’s award winners who will be honored next month by the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii.
Modeled after the National Living Treasures (Ningen Kokuho) of Japan, the annual Hawaii program recognizes individuals who have demonstrated excellence in their particular field and have made significant contributions to society.
Below are this year’s honorees.
SIGN UP TO ATTEND ANNUAL LUNCHEON
Reservations are now being accepted for Honpa Hongwanji’s 103rd Legislative Assembly Aloha Luncheon at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballroom, where the awards will be presented.
The luncheon will be held at noon Feb. 14; registration starts at 11 a.m. Aloha attire is requested. Tickets are $70 for payments received by Jan. 31 and $85 between Feb. 1 and 7. Sponsor tables are available: gold, $5,000; silver, $3,000; bronze, $1,500.
Registration forms are available at the Honpa Hongwanji headquarters or can be obtained by calling 522-9200 or emailing admin@honpahi.org. Mail the form, along with a check made payable to HHMH, to Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii, 1727 Pali Highway, Honolulu HI 96813. Payment must accompany the reservation form.
