Ching makes cut in Latin America Tour
Punahou graduate Alex Ching shot rounds of 70-71 to make the cut at the PGA Latin America Tour’s Arturo Calle Colombia Coffee Classic, in Cali, Colombia.
At 1-under-par 141, Ching was tied for 20th after finishing his second round. He received an exemption into the event after a top-20 finish at the last tournament in Puerto Rico.
Kaneko, Kono way back in Q-School
Hawaii golfers Ayaka Kaneko and Stephanie Kono remain well off the pace after three rounds of the five-round LPGA Tour’s Qualifying School Stage III in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Kaneko, a Sacred Hearts alum, shot a 78—223 and is tied for 75th place, four strokes off earning some level of tour eligibility. Kono, a Punahou grad, shot 75—225 and is tied for 92nd.
Thailand’s Moriya Jutanugarn shot a bogey-free 3-under 69 for a 13-under 203 total to lead the way by six strokes.
Wilson’s 67 moves him to 84th at Q-School
Former Kaneohe resident Dean Wilson shot a 5-under 67 on Friday for a 4-under 212 after three rounds of the six-round PGA Tour Qualifying School in La Quinta, Calif., that leaves him tied for 84th.
Wilson is 14 shots behind leader Meen Whee Kim and six shots behind the top 25 and ties, which would earn him a 2013 PGA Tour card. He is one stroke back of the next 50 and ties, who earn Web.com Tour cards.
