Suspect in assault on Christmas Eve appears in court
A 45-year-old Kapolei man accused of trying to kill a 21-year-old man at a Waianae-area home on Christmas Eve made his initial court appearance Friday at Honolulu District Court.
Charles-Allen Lewis was charged Thursday with attempted second-degree murder. His bail was set at $300,000.
Lewis remains in custody at the Oahu Community Correctional Center.
Lewis allegedly assaulted the younger man with a dangerous instrument, causing serious bodily injury, police said.
Police arrested Lewis shortly after the 7:30 p.m. Wednesday assault on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder as well as for a contempt warrant for violating the terms and conditions of a probation.
Lewis was charged March 14, 2013, in family court with misdemeanor abuse of a family or household member, but in a plea deal pleaded guilty to harassment, a petty misdemeanor. On April 8, 2013, he was convicted of harassment. Lewis was resentenced May 23 to one year of probation in that case.
Vandalism at park in Kalihi forces restroom closure
Water has been shut off and restrooms closed at Kalakaua District Park in Kalihi following vandalism on Christmas Eve.
The water was shut off to allow for repairs to a drinking fountain. Restrooms in the park will be closed until water can be restored.
The People’s Open Market scheduled for Saturday will take place as planned, but no restrooms will be available on-site.
The city’s Department of Parks and Recreation is coordinating repairs with the Board of Water Supply.
