Crews tackle 2-acre brush fire in Kapolei
Firefighters battled a two-acre brush fire Sunday afternoon, a Honolulu Fire Department spokesman said.
The blaze flared up around 2:20 p.m. near 2260 Lauwiliwili St. No injuries or property damage was reported, fire inspector David Jenkins said.
Eight companies responded to the scene, and 21 HFD personnel worked to get the fire under control by 2:59 p.m.
Jenkins said light wind conditions worked in firefighters’ favor.
The cause and origin of the blaze is not yet known, but Jenkins said firefighters reported somebody lighting a fire in nearby area, and one suspicious person was reported at the cite.
“If anyone sees a suspicious person or suspicious activity before during or after a brush fire, please call the police either at 911 or Crimestoppers,” Jenkins said.
