2 westbound lanes on the H-1, Nimitz to close due to repairs
The state Department of Transportation is advising Oahu motorists to plan for extra travel time along the H-1 freeway as repairs to an airport viaduct deck continue through the weekend.
Two right lanes in the westbound direction will be closed from the Keehi Interchange to the Hickam Air Force Base/Naval Base offramp (Exit 15-B) between 11:59 p.m. Friday continuously through 12:01 a.m. Monday.
Freeway ramps to and from Honolulu Airport will remain open. However, a detour route will be in effect to accommodate the construction.
The offramp to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam will be closed. Westbound motorists heading to the base are advised to take the Arizona Memorial/Stadium offramp (Exit 15-A) to Kamehameha Highway and make a U-turn at Radford Drive.
Two right westbound lanes on Nimitz Highway, between Elliot Street and Valkenburgh Street, will also be closed as a safety precaution.
The speed limit will be reduced to 15 mph in the work zone.
Alleged gunshot during dispute leads to arrest
A man who allegedly confronted his neighbor and fired a handgun in close proximity to her was arrested Christmas Eve on suspicion of reckless endangering, terroristic threatening and trespass, Kauai County officials reported.
The dispute between the Anahola neighbors began shortly after the victim’s dog reportedly attacked and killed a male Shih Tzu mix owned by the 34-year-old man who was arrested. The dog attack reportedly occurred after the Shih Tzu trespassed onto the victim’s property.
The victim called police at 6:28 p.m. Wednesday and reported that the man had come onto her property and fired a handgun about 6 feet in front of her. Police located the suspect at his home on Kalalea View Drive. Officers also found a handgun at the residence.
The man was taken into custody and released after posting $22,000 bail.
