Assault leaves homeless man in critical condition
A 59-year-old homeless man was critically injured when he was apparently assaulted Wednesday night in the Haleiwa area, police said.
Police said the apparent assault occurred at 9:20 p.m. along Kamehameha Highway.
Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to a call from the 7-Eleven in Haleiwa and found the man in a wheelchair.
Department of Emergency Services spokeswoman Shayne Enright said he was pushed there in the wheelchair. He was taken by ambulance in serious condition to an area hospital.
Police said he received facial and head injuries, and was in critical condition.
Detectives are investigating the case, but there were no suspects in custody Thursday afternoon.
