A state jury found a longtime wrestling coach and coordinator of the state high school wrestling championships guilty this afternoon of third-degree sexual assault for molesting a 14-year-old girl during the 2012 Aloha State Games wrestling tournament at Farrington High School.

Keith T. Matsumoto, 56, faces a maximum five-year prison term at sentencing in May.

Circuit Judge Randal K.O. Lee is allowing Matsumoto to remain free on $11,000 bail until then but told Matsumoto he is prohibited from participating in any high school sporting events. 

Lee said that means no coaching, assistant coaching, team parenting or advising. He said Matsumoto can attend his daughter’s high school sporting events as a spectator as long as he is accompanied by another adult not associated with the event.

Matsumoto testified that he has been assisting his daughter’s high school wrestling coach.
