A late push helped Punahou win its eighth straight state title.
Roxy Kiessling scored three goals, including the go-ahead shot, as Punahou beat ‘Iolani 5-3 in Saturday’s championship match of the Stanford Carr Development/HHSAA Girls Water Polo State Championships at Kamehameha-Hawaii.
Punahou led 2-1 at halftime and 3-2 after the third quarter.
In the fourth, ‘Iolani’s Elizabeth Barr scored with 4:04 remaining to tie the match. Kiessling responded with 3:37 left to give the Buffanblu a 4-3 advantage. Amy Bolan scored with 1:42 remaining to extend the lead to 5-3.
Barr led the Raiders with two goals. ‘Iolani was trying to win its second state title and first since 2007.
