Construction Alliance endorses Anderson for Congressional seat

Honolulu City Councilman Ikaika Anderson’s bid for Hawaii’s 1st Congressional District seat won the endorsement of the Hawaii Construction Alliance, the group announced this morning.
Anderson is one of at least six candidates vying for the seat now held by U.S. Rep. Colleen Hanabusa, who is foregoing a re-election bid to run for U.S. Senate.
The alliance represents about 15,000 workers in four construction-related union organizations: the Hawaii Regional Council of Carpenters; the Hawaii Masons Union, Local 1 and Local 630; the Laborer’s International Union of North America, Local 368; and the Operating Engineers, Local Union No. 3.
Ron Taketa, executive secretary-treasurer of the Hawaii Regional Council of Carpenters, said Anderson shares the same priorities of the alliance’s members and families of a stronger economy for Hawaii by "creating quality local jobs, growing a clean energy industry here in the islands, and spending our tax dollars wisely."
Others running for the 1st Congressional District seat include City Councilman Stanley Chang, state Sen. Will Espero, state Senate President Donna Mercado Kim, state Rep. Mark Takai and community activist Kathryn Xian.
