Duke sweeps UH men’s tennis
The University of Hawaii men’s tennis team was blanked by No. 12 Duke on Wednesday during the season-opening Rainbow Warrior Classic at the UH Tennis Complex.
The Blue Devils won eight singles matches and eight doubles matches. Nicolas Alvarez, the No. 18-ranked singles player, beat Chas Okamoto 6-3, 6-4, and No. 36 Jason Tahir defeated Nils Schuhmann 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2 in the only singles match that went three sets.
In doubles, Bruno Semenzato and Josh Levine edged Joakim Pinola and Marcel Chan 7-6 (2).
Point Loma Nazarene defeats Vulcans
Jessica Escorza had 19 points and 11 rebounds as the Point Loma Nazarene women’s basketball team beat Hawaii Hilo 72-58 in a PacWest Conference game Wednesday at Hilo Civic Auditorium.
Paola Roa added 16 points and Roya Rustamzada finished with 14 for the Sea Lions (5-8 3-3).
McKenzie Mangino had 18 points and seven rebounds and Alexa Jacobs had 10 points for the Vulcans (4-7, 3-4).
