The new We Vote Hawaii has a new logo.
An online voting process was held to select a design to represent the nonprofit organization formerly known as Kids Voting Hawaii.
In the next few months, We Vote Hawaii will launch a website, www.wevotehawaii.org, which will include curriculum on civic lessons for teachers, information on candidates and helpful links, said board chairwoman Linda Coble.
Students participating in the program will be able to use passwords to access a practice ballot on the website beginning Sept. 22.
For the general election, students may cast We Vote Hawaii ballots from Oct. 20 through Nov. 4. Results will be posted on the website soon after polling sites close.
The organization changed its name to reflect all student age groups. Since 1996 it has given students the opportunity to conduct their own voting during Hawaii’s general election. Participation is open to public, private, charter and home-schooled students.
More than 120,000 students cast votes in the 2012 general election; about 108,000 voted in 2010; and almost 120,000 in 2008.
