St. John Vianney parish in Kailua is hosting its fourth "Breakfast with the Bishop" on Jan. 19 as a fundraiser for its school at 920 Keolu Drive.
The Catholic Diocese of Honolulu’s Bishop Larry Silva will attend three breakfasts after services at 8 and 10 a.m. and noon, and speak on the special role of parish schools.
This year several local politicians and celebrities will help the cafeteria workers, teachers, parents and students prepare and serve pancakes. Among the guest helpers: former Lt. Gov. James "Duke" Aiona, Ikaika Anderson, Chai Chaowasaree, Frank De Lima, Miss Hawaii Crystal Lee, Aaron Mahi, the Rev. Gary Secor and Sweetie Pacarro.
The Rev. Thomas Gross, who serves as parish pastor, and school principal Caryn DeMello will also be present. Entertainment will include the school’s hula halau under the direction of Jack McKeague, and student choir, band and orchestra performances under music teacher Dana Arbaugh.
The proceeds from this year’s event will be used to create a new 21st Century Multi-Media Learning Center, as well as tuition assistance for students.
