CIVIC ASSOCIATION HONORS LUM FOR OUTREACH TO COMMUNITY
1. Wing Tek Lum, center, was the guest of honor at the Hawaii Chinese Civic Association’s 2012 Mandarin Ball Nov. 11 at the Pacific Beach Hotel. Lum received the group’s Mandarin Award for his leadership as a founder of the Chinatown Improvement District and also the Chinese Community Action Coalition, a nonpartisan outreach group that encourages Chinese immigrant citizens to exercise their right to vote. Lum and his wife, Chee Ping, second from left, were greeted by board member Wesley Fong, left, 2013 President Helen Lee Char and 2012 President Dr. Joseph W.C. Young before the formal program started.

2. Wendell Wo, left, welcomed Cheryl Sanders, Mary Gutzi and Jim Nabors to “At Home for the Holidays,” the Wo family’s annual pre-Christmas party, Nov. 17 at the C.S. Wo & Sons gallery on Beretania Street. Guests enjoyed Chinese-style roast pig on bao buns with plum sauce, deep-fried tiger shrimp, green curry chicken, prime rib, red velvet cupcakes, and Christmas caroling by the Diamond Head Theatre Shooting Stars.
