No violations, fires due to fireworks
The Honolulu Fire Department said there were no fireworks violations or reported fires that could be attributed to fireworks during the July Fourth holiday.
The number of fireworks-related incidents has dropped dramatically since Oahu banned most fireworks in 2011.
Police officers issued two fireworks-related citations between July 2 and 5. The number of fireworks-related 911 calls decreased 19 percent from last year — 76 this year compared with 94 last year.
On Oahu it is illegal to purchase or use fireworks such as fountains, sparklers and other novelty items under the ordinance that went into effect Jan. 2, 2011. Firecrackers can still be purchased with a permit, but no one under 18 years old may use them, even with adult supervision.
