No. 7 Oregon squeezes past Hawaii
Nick Catalano scored on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth inning to give No. 7 Oregon a 3-2 victory over Hawaii in the 2014 season opener for both teams on Friday night at Les Murakami Stadium.
The Ducks ran their winning streak to eight against the Rainbow Warriors, who allowed only three hits.
Reliever Eric Gleese took the loss despite throwing 3 2/3 quality innings in relief of starter Matt Cooper.
Gleese allowed one hit before walking two batters with two outs in the eighth. Junior Jordan DePonte replaced Gleese and struck out Scott Heineman on a pitch that got away from catcher Trevor Podratz.
Catalano scored all the way from second as Podratz struggled to get the ball back in to DePonte, who was covering home plate.
UH first baseman Marcus Doi reached base four times in his collegiate debut, including a leadoff single in his first at-bat.

Aliviado finished with two of UH’s five hits.
