Funeral services planned for taxpayers’ champion
Services for taxpayer advocate Lowell L. Kalapa are today at the Diamond Head Mortuary Chapel.
Kalapa, 64, died December 30, 2013 at his Kapahulu home.
The president of the nonprofit Tax Foundation of Hawaii since the early 1970s, Kalapa has been praised by leaders of all political stripes for his ability to explain in layman’s terms the impact of state and city financial policies on the common taxpayer.
Born in Honolulu, Kalapa was also a board member of the Native Hawaiian Revolving Loan Fund, the Hawaii State Federal Credit Union, Kawaiaha‘o Church, Queen Lili‘uokalani Children’s Center, Casey Family Program Community Resource Council, Friends of Foster Kids and the Good Beginnings Alliance.
Friends may call from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 22 at the Diamond Head Mortuary Chapel. A service will begin at 6:30 in the chapel. Aloha attire.
