No. 9 North Carolina thumps Chaminade in Maui third-place game
Chaminade was no match for ninth-ranked North Carolina in the EA Sports Maui Invitational third-place game today, falling 112-70 to the Tar Heels.
UNC (5-1), clearly motivated after its upset loss to Butler in the Tuesday semifinals, scored 22 points in the first five minutes and had little slippage from there.
The Tar Heels’ 112 points are the most scored in the tournament since UNC scored 115 on Chaminade in the 2008 quarterfinals. UNC hit eight of its first 10 3-point attempts, making 13 for the game, and finished with 62.3 percent shooting from the field.
James Michael McAdoo, an expected NBA first-round draft pick, had team highs of 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Senior guard De’Andre Haskins led the Silverswords (3-3) with 22 points on 9-for-15 shooting. Bennie Murray added 15 points.
