A baby girl who died after becoming unresponsive at a day care home in Ewa Beach was identified Wednesday as Zoe Wurtz.
An autopsy was inconclusive, and the cause of the girl’s death was pending. Wurtz, of Ewa Beach, was 6 months and 20 days old when she died Tuesday, the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office said.
Police said Wurtz was found unresponsive shortly before noon Tuesday. Paramedics were called to the day care home on Halemano Street and took the child to a hospital, where she died.
Police opened an unattended death investigation and said foul play is not suspected.
Kayla Rosenfeld, state Department of Human Services spokeswoman, said the day-care home is a “family child care” facility registered with the state. She said DHS suspended the care home’s registration Wednesday, pending completion of a DHS investigation into the child’s death.
Rosenfeld did not know the care home’s name.
She said family child-care providers must meet state requirements. Information on whether the care home had any violations in its history was not immediately available.
