A 34-year-old worker at the Hilton Waikoloa Village was electrocuted Wednesday morning and died.
Hawaii County police said officers responding to an 8:44 a.m. call found that a subcontractor doing renovations in the 69-400 block of Waikoloa Beach Drive had suffered a fatal injury from an electric shock.
The victim was identified as Aaron Barrett of Honokaa.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
Assault on girlfriend sends man to jail
A 29-year-old man was arrested Tuesday in Waikiki after he punched his girlfriend in the face while she slept, police said.
The woman, 28, told police that at about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday she woke up to find her boyfriend slugging her several times. She sustained contusions and a laceration to her face, police said.
Police arrested the man on Hobron Lane at about 8 a.m. Tuesday for investigation of second-degree assault and for an outstanding warrant.
Parents arrested over alleged child abuse
The parents of a 6-year-old girl were arrested Monday after they assaulted their daughter with an object in Barbers Point, bruising the girl’s arm and leg, police said.
The incident allegedly happened about 7 a.m. Sunday, and both parents were arrested for investigation of abuse about 11:15 a.m. Monday.
The parents, a 32-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, were later charged with misdemeanor abuse of a family member.

Youth football embezzler gets probation
HILO >> A 55-year-old Waimea woman accused of embezzling almost $100,000 from the Big Island Pop Warner Football Conference has been sentenced to 10 years of probation.
The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reported that Greta “Pua” Correa was sentenced Tuesday to probation and ordered to make restitution of $98,100 to the league.
Prosecutors say Correa stole the money between 2009 and 2012. The former league treasurer forged the signature of then-league President Charles Nahale on league travel fund checks.
The former president of the Puna Panthers team, Keven Lee, says a $108 check bounced in 2012 from a travel account that should have contained more than $100,000. He alerted league officials after the bounced check.
Chinese tourist perishes in sea off Big Island
A 44-year-old Chinese visitor apparently drowned in the ocean off the Hilton Waikoloa Village on Wednesday afternoon.
Hawaii County police said South Kohala officers responded to a 12:36 p.m. report of a possible drowning at the 69-400 block of Waikoloa Beach Drive.
When police arrived, the man was unconscious on the shore and being treated by medics using cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Medics could not revive him, and he was pronounced dead at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, police said.
He was identified as Cong Guo of Shanghai.
An autopsy was ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
