Vulcans lead in conference golf tourney
Hawaii Hilo’s Kristen Sawada shot a 2-over-par 74 to take the individual lead after the first round of the Pacific West Conference Women’s Golf Championships at the Hawaii Prince Golf Club on Monday.
The Vulcans posted a team score of 312, good for a three-stroke lead over Cal Baptist (315). Hawaii Pacific (347) sits in sixth place in the eight-team field entering Tuesday’s final round.
Sawada was supported by Vulcans teammate Jade Salvador (76), who is tied for third. Kacie Harada and Dayna Bersamin both shot 81 and are tied for 10th.
Seasiders drop two in softball
The Brigham Young-Hawaii softball team lost both games of a Pacific West Conference doubleheader to Azusa Pacific on Monday in Azusa, Calif.
Taylor Alvarez singled in Whitney Gustafson in the top of the first, but the Cougars (39-17, 22-10) rallied to take the first game 3-1.
Azusa Pacific pounded out 16 hits en route to a 9-1 win in the second game to clinch the sweep.
The Seasiders fell to 10-22, 6-20.
