Man sought in Waipahu burglary attempt
Honolulu police are searching for a man who tried to enter a locked Waipahu store late Saturday night by flashing a weapon to employees inside.
Two women, ages 45 and 33, reported the incident to police around 11:42 p.m., according to police records. The man fled after not being able to enter the building, police said.
Police are also searching for a man who tried to rob a business early Sunday morning. Police said a man also displayed a dangerous weapon, and demanded money before fleeing.
A 26-year-old man reported the incident to police around 12:15 a.m. The locale wasn’t specified.
McCully woman reports man in her room
A 32-year-old McCully man allegedly entered a woman’s bedroom Sunday morning without permission, Honolulu police said.
The woman told police that around 12:15 a.m. she awoke in her McCully residence to find a man standing next to her bed, according to police records. Police said she told the man to leave and called 911.
Responding officers located the man at his home on Beretania Street around 1:20 a.m. and arrested him on suspicion of second-degree unauthorized entry into a dwelling, according to police.
Alert issued about jury-duty warrant scam
The Hawaii Department of Public Safety is warning the public about a scam involving people impersonating sheriff deputies.
According to the warning, the imposters claim to be serving warrants to people who did not show up for jury duty and offer to clear the warrant if the victims pay for a product or service.
The Sheriff Division affirms that deputy sheriffs "will never call people about warrants having to do with jury duty or solicit the purchase of anything."
Anyone having received such a call is asked to contact the Sheriff Division at 587-1352.
Man charged in Waimanalo home break-in
A 19-year-old homeless man burglarized a Waimanalo home Saturday night, according to police.
An 87-year-old woman reported the incident around 6:38 p.m. Police said the suspect, Floyd Kihei Ruiz, entered a home without permission and took property.
Ruiz was located and arrested two hours later. He was charged Sunday with first-degree unauthorized entry into a dwelling. His bail was set at $11,000.
Autopsy set for Utah cruise passenger
An autopsy is scheduled today for an 87-year-old Utah man who died after hitting his head aboard a cruise ship off Hawaii island.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as James C. Harte of Salt Lake City.
Harte, a passenger, fell and hit his head at about 10:30 p.m. Jan. 27, Honolulu police said.
On Thursday, Harte was taken to an Oahu hospital for further treatment. He died at about 10:30 p.m. Friday.
Police do not suspect foul play.
