Class teaches healthy eating during holidays
It is possible to eat heartily and healthfully during the holidays, and Castle Medical Center’s cooking class on Nov. 28 will show you how.
The demonstration class will focus on vegetarian dishes and offer food safety tips. Participants will taste the dishes and go home with recipes.
The demo runs 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Castle’s Wellness & Lifestyle center. Cost is $15, $20 couples, and $10 seniors and students. Reservations required two days in advance of class. Call 263-5400 or visit castlemed.org.
Benefit to aid sustainable food startups
Support startup business folk who are in the business of promoting a sustainable Hawaii, at "Re-Imagining Hawaii: Creating Our Food, Investing in Our People, Strengthening Our Communities," a dinner benefit for Feed the Hunger Foundation on Dec. 6 at Hilton Hawaiian Village.
Hilton’s executive chef Jeffrey Vigilla, town restaurant’s Ed Kenney and taro expert Daniel Anthony will put together the menu.
The foundation provides small loans to local businesses and low-income entrepreneurs who want to provide healthful, locally sourced food to the community. Past recipients include the GreenWheel Food Hub and Naked Cow Dairy.
The event runs 5:30 to 9 p.m. Tickets start at $200; tables of 10 start at $2,500.

RainForest, Arianna win top coffee honors
Kona RainForest Coffee and Arianna Farms Ono Kona Coffee took top honors at the Kona Coffee Cupping Competition during the 10-day Kona Coffee Cultural Festival that began Nov. 2.
John King of Harold L. King and Co., Makoto Ikeda of UCC Ueshima Coffee Co. and Phil Maloney of Peet’s Coffee & Tea judged the competition. They selected Kona RainForest from more than 40 entries in the Classic Division. Kona RainForest’s 42-acre farm is certified organic.
Arianna’s win in the competition is the farm’s third.
