Maui firefighters rescue woman injured while looking for lost dog
A 66-year-old woman, looking for a lost dog, slipped on mossy rocks in a stream along Honopou Road in Haiku and was rescued by Maui firefighters.
The woman and her partner were about a half-mile makai of the Hana Highway when the accident happened just after 11 a.m. Friday in an area known as Black Rock, a Maui Fire Department spokesman said.
The woman injured her right shoulder, but the trail was too slippery and steep for her to hike out, said Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.
The Fire Department helicopter airlifted the woman to a landing zone, where she was taken by ambulance in stable condition to the hospital.
