The University of Hawaii football team’s quarterback competition will be going into overtime.
Ikaika Woolsey and Jeremy Higgins are both listed at No. 1 on the depth chart released on Thursday.
Woolsey and Higgins rotated during contact sessions in the 15 practices of spring training that concluded with the Spring Fling on Saturday.
Taylor Graham was listed as the No. 3 quarterback. Graham, who redshirted in 2012 after transferring from Ohio State, started last season’s first three games. But he suffered an injury to his left (non-throwing) shoulder and eventually underwent surgery in December. He was on a limited-contact status during spring training.
Woolsey joined the Rainbow Warriors as a grayshirt in January 2012. He redshirted that season, and was in the opening lineup for two games in 2013. Woolsey appears to be a good fit in the Warriors’ expanded offense, which sometimes incorporates zone-read schemes.
Higgins is a 2009 Saint Louis School graduate who transferred to UH in 2010 after a season at Utah State.
The quarterback competition will expand this summer with the addition of Beau Reilly, who recently completed a two-year church mission. Reilly attended spring practices as a spectator and will join the Warriors in June when his scholarship is activated.
UH also remains a destination option for USC quarterback Max Wittek, who is seeking to transfer. After Wittek earns a bachelor’s degree this month, he is free to transfer without redshirting this season.
Ben Clarke, who started all 24 of his UH games at center, is now the No. 1 left tackle. Kody Afusia, who moved from left guard, is listed as the No. 1 center.
Kevin Clune, who was hired as defensive coordinator in January, implemented a 3-4 base scheme. Tevita Lataimua, who played well this spring, and Jerrol Garcia-Williams, who was an outside linebacker last year, are listed as the top inside linebackers.
