Woman dies after car crashes into tree in Kahaluu
A woman in her 50s died tonight when the car she was riding in crashed into a tree in Kahaluu.
She was the rear-seat passenger, police said.
Police said the driver, a man in his 50s, was seriously injured after the 1995 Toyota stationwagon he was driving struck a tree at about 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Ahuimanu Road and Ahuimanu Place.
Emergency Medical Services transported the woman in extremely critical condition to the Queen’s Medical Center, where she died, authorities said. The driver was taken to Queen’s in serious condition.
Police Lt. Robert Towne said it appeared the couple lived in the car, which also had yard-cleaning equipment and roosters
Towne said the driver may have been distracted or was under the influence of an intoxicant.

Police began contraflowing Ahuimanu Road at about 7:30 p.m.
