The founder of a new mobile application called DareShare will stage the inaugural DareUp from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday at Hokulani Bakeshop in Pearlridge Center.
Creator Hoala Greevy describes DareShare as a "mobile social network built around people doing silly things, dares."
Greevy and Gov. Neil Abercrombie were captured in an image with Greevy behind the state’s chief executive "Kaepernicking," or kissing his biceps, mirroring the post-touchdown pose of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
To parents and HR departments, the app may seem to be another venue for hold-my-beer-and-watch-this moments that often result in what social media users might call unintentional memes.
"Yes, there will probably be those drunken DareShare submissions, just as how we see them on other social media," Greevy acknowledged, "but it’s popular with kids, too," he said.
What will differentiate DareShare from other apps, he said, is that there won’t be pictures of food or cats, "or descriptions of how people can’t fall asleep at night."
When people need a laugh, "we hope to be at the top of their list," Greevy said.
The first 300 people who show up and play along Sunday will receive a free cupcake from the bakery. DareShare parent company Undefeated Games Inc. also will donate $1 for each cupcake given away to the McKinley High School Foundation.
DareShare can be downloaded free online.

T+L READERS STILL LOVE HAWAII
Maui again topped other Hawaiian islands in the Travel + Leisure 2013 World’s Best Awards.
Kauai repeated at No. 7, but no other Hawaiian islands made this year’s top 10, nor did Honolulu rank among the top 10 cities in the world. No U.S. city made the cut. New York City was dethroned from the top 10, from No. 7 in 2012 and No. 4 in 2011.
The Four Seasons Resort Hualalai again hit the top spot among Hawaii resorts, as it has for at least the past two years.
In what some may see as a surprising turnabout in branding, the Kahala Hotel & Resort was named the top family hotel in Hawaii and No. 15 in the U.S. overall.

RADIO RESURRECTION
KTBH-FM 102.7 in Hilo will officially launch its format Thursday at noon after a long on-air absence.
"I have been looking forward to launching this station for nearly three years," said Director of Programming Matt Stone.
The station is branded as "The Alternative for Hawaii Island," and will play a mix of what Stone calls "beach music," island rock and reggae, and alternative rock from the 1980s to the present.
The station’s original owner, Maui-based Visionary Related Entertainment, put the station on the air in 2008, but a couple of ownership changes later, the station now is licensed to Kailua-Kona-based Resonate Hawaii LLC.
