Weiner comes under attack over NYC voter’s slur

NEW YORK (AP) — Mayoral hopeful Anthony Weiner is being criticized for his soft reaction to a woman who used a slur when describing his Democratic opponent Christine Quinn.

In an audio recording from a Saturday event in Queens posted on the Washington Post website, Weiner asks the woman if she’s a registered Democrat. She replies "yes," adding she wouldn’t vote for "what’s her name" and uses the slur for a lesbian.

Weiner says, "You really shouldn’t talk that way about people" and tells her "it’s not your fault" when she apologizes.

The Wall Street Journal (http://on.wsj.com/10CYQOc ) says Assemblywoman Deborah Glick and state Sen. Brad Hoylman condemned Weiner for lacking "moral courage." Both are openly gay.

Quinn declined to comment.

Weiner says he apologizes if he left the impression he didn’t do enough.
