HPU signs Ohio State hoops transfer
Junior guard Shelbi Honeycutt, who played two seasons for the Ohio State women’s basketball team, has transferred midseason to Hawaii Pacific and will be eligible to play for the Sea Warriors this coming semester.
Honeycutt averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds as a senior at Siloam Springs (Ark.) High, but saw limited playing time in 23 games for the Buckeyes. She will also have a full season of eligibility in 2014-15.
Honeycutt will be reunited with high school teammate and sister-in-law Laken McClelland, a junior forward in her first year at HPU.
» Chaminade junior guard Glacen Florita will head into the new year as the NCAA Division II women’s leader in free-throw percentage.
The Pearl City product is the lone D-II player who is perfect from the line, going 26-for-26 in eight games for the Silverswords (1-7). Florita has hit 31 consecutive free throws dating back to last season.
Due to an NCAA mandate, all D-II athletic programs take a break during Christmas week.
