1. Ejected
» Situation: Hawaii 0, Boise State 0, 13:22 remaining, first quarter, Hawaii ball fourth and 11 at own 20
» The Play: Boise State’s Chris Potter runs a punt back 37 yards to the Hawaii 33. Hawaii’s Will Gregory is flagged for a personal foul after throwing two punches at a Boise State player. The ball is moved to the Hawaii 18 and Gregory is ejected from the game.
» Impact: Boise State scored a touchdown to open the scoring two plays later. Without Gregory, its leading rusher, Hawaii netted minus-14 rushing yards, with 45 yards on 23 carries by its running backs. UH is expected to suspend Gregory today.
» Hawaii coach Norm Chow: "(Gregory is) a very valuable part of our team. That was uncalled for. That was stupid, and it will be dealt with severely."
2. Return
» Situation: Boise State 7, Hawaii 0, 12:46 remaining, first quarter, Boise State kicking off from own 35
» The Play: KR Mike Edwards takes the kick in the end zone and breaks out to the left. He stumbles and nearly falls, but regains his balance and speeds down the sideline. Near the Boise 25, he cuts back toward the middle, breaks through and crosses the end zone.
» Impact: It is Edwards’ third 100-yard kickoff return of the season for a TD, setting school records. In addition to tying the score, UH gains early momentum.
» Edwards: "Our team put a lot of emphasis and effort on blocking, so I was just blessed to make a play for the team and it was the perfect time and a great situation. I would rather get the win, but at that point in time in the game it was good to get back in the game."
3. Fumble
» Situation: Boise State 7, Hawaii 7, 8:16 remaining, first quarter, Boise State ball fourth and 14 at own 31
» The Play: Boise State’s Josh Borgman recovers a fumbled punt by Hawaii’s Scott Harding at the Hawaii 15.
» Impact: Another special teams failure gives Boise State the ball in the red zone once again, and again Boise State takes advantage with a touchdown — the first of six in a row. Boise State never lost control of the game after this play.
» Harding: "I just dropped it. No excuses. I just dropped it."
4. Sack
» Situation: Boise State 35, Hawaii 7, 6:44 remaining, third quarter, Hawaii ball first and 10 at own 39
» The Play: LB Jonathan Brown forces QB Sean Schroeder to fumble, and DE Demarcus Lawrence picks up the ball and runs 25 yards for a touchdown.
» Impact: Schroeder, who said he was not injured, did not return to the game. He completed 10 of 19 passes for 100 yards with no touchdowns and one interception and was sacked four times, losing a net minus-37 yards on five carries.
» Chow: "It’s not all Sean. The protection broke down. We’ll have to look at it. We’re not getting better at protection. It’s always hard when it’s an obvious pass situation, when people can pin their ears back and come after you. It makes it tough."
5. Replacement
» Situation: Boise State 42, Hawaii 7, 5:35 remaining, fourth quarter, Hawaii ball second and goal at Boise State 1
» The Play: RB John Lister bulls into the end zone for UH’s only offensive touchdown of the game.
» Impact: It caps Hawaii’s only sustained drive of the game, engineered by backup QB Jeremy Higgins (72 yards on 17 plays, against mostly backups). Higgins, who scored Hawaii’s only TD the previous game against Fresno State, completed 11 of 17 passes for 154 yards. He was intercepted once, fumbled once and sacked twice.
» Higgins: "I feel like I can give us a chance to win. I know my stuff. I can get the job done. But it’s all going to depend on the team, how we all rally with each other. I don’t want to take all the credit because the O-line was working their butts off today."
