Overnight standoff ends in man’s arrest
Police arrested a man Sunday on suspicion of abuse of a family member and drug violations after he barricaded himself in a home overnight in Kalaeloa. The standoff displaced several families, who could not return to their homes in the neighborhood until Sunday morning, police said.
The standoff on Guadalcanal Drive began just before midnight Saturday, and the man was brought in to the Kapolei substation around 8 a.m., an officer at the station said. The situation started with an altercation at about 11:30 p.m. that escalated when the man barricaded himself in a home, according to Hawaii News Now.
The American Red Cross helped to feed the displaced families Sunday morning. About 27 adults and 10 children were affected, according to Hawaii News Now.
Woman nearly drowns off Nanakuli beach
Paramedics took a 71-year-old woman to a local hospital in critical condition Sunday afternoon after she nearly drowned off Electric Beach in Nanakuli, an Emergency Medical Services supervisor said.
The incident occurred near the Kahe Power Plant around noon.
Hawaii News Now said the woman, from Ohio, was snorkeling with a group when she became separated.
Vehicle collision hurts 3 people seriously
Three people were seriously injured in a motor vehicle collision Sunday morning at the intersection of Isenberg and King streets.
Paramedics transferred a 23-year-old man, a 60-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman to a local trauma center.
The collision occurred just after 8 a.m.
Traffic stop reveals drugs and stolen car
An officer pulled over a 19-year-old Waimanalo man on a traffic stop in Kaneohe on Sunday and discovered the car was stolen, police said.
The officer, on special duty, saw the man commit a traffic violation at about 3:20 a.m., police said. When the officer ran the vehicle’s license plate, it showed the vehicle was reported stolen.
While conducting their investigation, police also discovered drugs and arrested the man on drug violations in addition to suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle.
