Galdiano makes Rolex second team
Pearl City’s Mariel Galdiano, in Florida to play the Polo Junior Classic this week, collected her second Rolex Junior All-America second-team honor in as many years Sunday.
The Punahou junior won the state high school championship her first two years. She is currently 15th in the Polo Golf Rankings, and fifth among those in the Class of 2016. Galdiano, 16, has already played in the U.S. Women’s Open twice and orally committed to UCLA.
The top 72 ranked boys and girls are invited to the Classic. Galdiano opened with a 75 Monday and followed up with a 2-under-par 70 to tie for sixth in stroke-play qualifying and advance to match play.
On Wednesday, she won her first-round match over Annika Clark, of Texas, 4 and 3. In the afternoon, third-ranked Bethany Wu, from California, defeated Galdiano 1 up. Galdiano was 5 under on the day.
