Carissa Moore won her third-round heat at the Target Maui Pro on Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinals.

Hawaii’s Carissa Moore scored a 9.83 on one of her waves Wednesday en route to a third-round victory in the Target Maui Pro surf contest at Honolua Bay.

Moore, a two-time world champion who is out of the title picture this year, defeated fellow Hawaii surfers Malia Manuel and Coco Ho to advance directly into the quarterfinals.

In the fourth round Wednesday, both Manuel and Ho were eliminated.

The three world-title contenders, top-ranked and five-time world champion Stephanie Gilmore, Sally Fitzgibbons and Tyler Wright, all Australians, also won their third-round heats to make it into the quarters.

The ASP champion will be decided at Honolua, and Gilmore is the front-runner to win her sixth world crown, which she can wrap up by surfing into the final.

The quarterfinals will be held on the next day of competition, conditions permitting.
