Chaminade wins hoops opener
Oregon State transfer Rhys Murphy scored 22 points, including going 5-for-5 from the beyond the 3-point arc, and De’Andre Haskins had 20 points and seven rebounds to lift Chaminade to an 89-82 victory over Western Oregon on Friday in Monmouth, Ore.
Chaminade went on two decisive runs — breaking away from a 38-all tie with a 9-2 run to end the half and going on a 13-2 run to open the second half en route to a 60-42 lead.
Chaminade plays Western Oregon today before returning home to play D-II national champion Western Washington at McCabe Gym on Nov. 14.
HPU women loses hoops opener
Heidi Anton scored 15 points and Mikela Thoemmes grabbed nine rebounds for Hawaii Pacific, which lost its women’s basketball opener to Western Oregon 73-61 in the Phoenix Inn D-II Shootout in Monmouth, Ore., on Friday.
Chaminade falls in women’s volleyball
Chaminade’s Whitney Viveiros had 11 kills in a four-set loss to Cal State Bakersfield in a women’s volleyball match at McCabe Gym on Friday.
The Roadrunners (13-16) won 25-18, 25-17, 21-25, 25-21. Chaminade is 7-16 and 4-10 in the PacWest Conference.
Wie drops to 12th at Lorena Ochoa Invitational
GUADALAJARA, Mexico » Michelle Wie shot a 3-over 75 on Friday, falling from first to 12th after two rounds at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational.
Angela Stanford shot 67 to take a two-stroke lead over Inbee Park. Wie is 8 back at 3-under 141.
The winner of the inaugural tournament in 2008, Stanford had an 11-under 133 total at Guadalajara Country Club.
Park, from South Korea, had a 68. Cristie Kerr was third at 8 under after a 69.
Ochoa was 1 under after a 72.
