Ethics case against Cabanilla is closed
The state Ethics Commission has closed a complaint filed against state Rep. Rida Cabanilla over her role in obtaining a $100,000 grant for the Ewa Historical Society.
In a letter Tuesday, Leslie Kondo, the commission’s executive director, said the commission accepted Cabanilla’s assurances that she, her son and her legislative staff did not receive any compensation related to their work for the society and would not receive any of the money if the grant is released by Gov. Neil Abercrombie. Lawmakers are covered under the fair-treatment section of the ethics law and are prohibited from assisting or representing businesses for a fee before the Legislature.
