A 41-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene after losing control of her car early Sunday morning near the Kahe Power Plant, Honolulu police said.
Around 12:38 a.m. the woman and her 7-year-old female passenger were traveling east on Farrington Highway about a half-mile west of Aliinui Drive when the driver lost control of her car and struck the concrete median, causing the vehicle to overturn, police said. The passenger was transported in good condition to a hospital.
Police said excessive speed and alcohol do not appear to have been factors.
This was Oahu’s 25th traffic fatality this year, compared with 27 at the same time last year.
Motorcyclist identified after H-1 accident
The motorcyclist who died Saturday after rear-ending a vehicle stopped on the H-1 freeway was identified Sunday as Randall Baldaf, 54, of Waipahu.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s office said an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
Police said that at about 12:50 a.m. Saturday, Baldaf struck a vehicle in the far right lane of the freeway about a half-mile before the Waiawa Road Overpass. The vehicle had stopped behind another vehicle that was stalled, police said. Baldaf was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene.
The occupants of the cars were uninjured.
