Another storm, but the same relief effort
Never mind asking whether the Filipino community here is raising relief funds after the latest natural disaster. The last fundraiser never ended.
The Filipino Community Center partnered with the nonprofit Consuelo Foundation to aid Typhoon Haiyan victims just over a year ago. And that donations mechanism is still in place to funnel funds for Tropical Storm Hagupit.
Hagupit, downgraded from the typhoon category when it struck the already battered communities over the weekend, killed about two dozen people in the initial tallies.
Consuelo is concentrating its resources on replacing basic infrastructure to help the area speed recovery. And it’s been matching, dollar for dollar, what the Filcom has collected — more than $700,000 so far. At filcom.org, click the Donate link below the "Give back by donating" header, and follow the prompts.
