Waianae’s Max Holloway lost a split decision to Dennis Bermudez in a preliminary bout at UFC 160 on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Two judges scored the bout 29-28 in favor of Bermudez while a third gave Holloway the fight by the same score.

Holloway dropped Bermudez with a spinning heel kick in round one and had the upper hand until the final round.

Bermudez, a freestyle All-American wrestler in college, took Holloway down and delivered an elbow that opened up a nasty cut on Holloway’s face.

Holloway had his three-fight winning streak snapped and dropped to 7-2 overall and 3-2 in the UFC.

Kailua-Kona’s K.J. Noons opened the pay-per-view portion of the card with a brutal unanimous decision loss to Donald Cerrone.

Noons (11-7) lost his UFC debut after competing in StrikeForce his last seven fights. He was cut just above his right eye immediately after the fight started and was opened up again in the third by a series of vicious elbows.

The judges scored the fight 30-27, 30-27, 30-26 in favor of Cerrone (20-5, 6-2 UFC).
