A Pearl Harbor-based destroyer is back in Hawaii after a deployment lasting more than seven months.
The guided missile destroyer USS O’Kane participated in two Joint Air Defense Exercises and carried out missions with carrier strike groups while deployed to Asia and the Middle East.
The crew also participated in several community relations projects while stopping in Singapore, Bahrain and Thailand.
The O’Kane returned to Pearl Harbor on Thursday morning. It left Hawaii in March.
Under Cmdr. Michael Ray, the ship has 23 officers, 24 chief petty officers and 291 enlisted sailors. It can launch Standard, Tomahawk and Harpoon missiles and MK-46 torpedoes and has a 5-inch-diameter gun and two Phalanx close-in weapons systems to counter incoming missiles.
