Most millionaires favor tax hike
A majority of U.S. millionaires think rising income inequality is a "major problem," and almost two-thirds favor increasing taxes on the wealthy and raising the minimum wage to reverse the trend, according to a new survey.
But the views of the wealthy on these hot-button topics vary significantly by political affiliation, suggesting millionaires are as split as the rest of the country between Democratic and Republican beliefs, according to the poll by financial news channel CNBC.
For example, about half of all millionaires surveyed believe inequality is a problem. But while 86 percent of Democrats are worried about the nation’s sizable income gap, only 20 percent of Republicans share the concern.
Subway gives hummus trial run
NEW YORK » Subway is testing hummus and thinner slices of deli meats that look more appealing as it looks to keep pace with changing eating trends.
Tony Pace, Subway’s chief marketing officer, said in interview last week that the chain began testing hummus as a topping in early April. Pace noted that many customers already order vegetarian sandwiches and that the chickpea spread would give people looking for meatless options another choice.
"It’s something we’ve been talking about for the last three or four years," Pace said, saying it has "tremendous potential."
If the test is successful, Pace said it would be the first time the chain rolled out hummus nationally. Individual franchisees may have offered it independently in the past, he said.
Getting hummus as a topping will cost more, much like the avocado Subway added to its menu in recent years.
