Warrior Intercollegiate wraps up
Baylor and North Carolina State junior Albin Choi went low on Wednesday’s final day of the Warrior Wave Intercollegiate, capturing team and individual titles at Princeville’s Makai Golf Club on Kauai.
The Bears, No. 49 in this week’s Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, closed with the best round of the tournament. They fired a 9-under-par 279 and won by seven shots over North Carolina State. Baylor finished at 18-under 846 and was 17 under the final two days. It was led by individual runner-up Filippo Zucchetti, whose 66 left him a shot out of first.
Choi, who won the Ontario Amateur championship this summer, fired rounds of 69-68-69 to finish at 10-under 206.
Junior Nainoa Calip led the Warriors, closing with a 70 to move into a tie for 18th at 217. Calip was fourth on Kauai last year and 14th as a freshman. Teammates Cory Oride and Ryan Kuroiwa tied for 45th, at 73—223. Freshman Scott Yamashita fired a 68 Wednesday to lead the UH B team at 225.
Hawaii was 13th in the team standings, at 291—886. The UH B team was last at 298—928.
