A motorcyclist died Saturday after he rear-ended a car stopped in the far right lane of H-1 freeway in Pearl City.
The crash happened around 12:50 a.m. about half a mile before the Waiawa Road Overpass.
A car, not involved in the crash, was stopped in the far right lane of the freeway due to mechanical problems.
Another car, driven by a Mililani man, stopped behind the car and was struck shortly after by the motorcyclist.
The motorcyclist, a Waipahu man, suffered numerous injuries and died at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet, police said.
Excessive speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors, police said. The driver and the passenger of the car that was hit were not injured.
Police closed all westbound lanes for about three hours.
This was the 24th traffic fatality this year compared to 27 at the same time in 2014, police said.
