Warriors in 12th heading into final round
Hawaii remained 12th in the Warrior Wave Intercollegiate golf tournament Tuesday, following up an opening-round 300 with a 295. The Warriors are 19 over par and 28 strokes behind Baylor, which shot 280 for a 567 total.
The Bears lead UC Irvine (284) by three and East Tennessee State (285) and North Carolina State (287) by four going into today’s final round at Makai Golf Club at Princeville. Georgia Southern (292—575) is the only other team under par and co-host Pepperdine (285—576) is even-par.
Hawaii’s B team is 16th — last — at 305—630.
North Carolina State’s Albin Choi is the individual leader, firing a 68 for a two-day total of 7-under 137. Nainoa Calip is the only Warrior in the top 30, moving into a tie for 29th with a second-round 72. Teammates Ryan Kuroiwa (73) and Cory Oride (74) share 46th at 150.
Jamila, Takahama win Bridgestone
An eagle on the fifth hole proved to be the difference Tuesday as Damien Jamila and Mark Takahama won the 12th annual Bridgestone Pro-Scratch Championship at Pearl Country Club.
Jamila, the pro in the group, and Takahama, the scratch amateur, shot the low round both days. They opened with 61 in Monday’s scramble format and followed with a 63 in Tuesday’s best ball. Their two-day total was 20-under-par 124.
That was two shots better than Philip Chun and Kala Ka‘aihue, who shot 64 Tuesday with 10 birdies — eight by Ka‘aihue, who plays professional baseball.
Jamila and Takahama bogeyed the second hole Tuesday, but didn’t have anything higher than three on the next five holes. They parred the third, birdied Nos. 4, 6 and 7 and eagled the par-5 fifth. They added five birdies on the back.
Their winning total was three off the tournament record of 121, shot in 2006 by Kellan Anderson and Troy Higashiyama.
Jamila won $2,000 and Takahama received a $600 gift certificate from Pearl.
