Fujikawa tied for 36th in eGolf event
Tadd Fujikawa shot a 2-over-par 74 and is tied for 36th place after Thursday’s second round of the eGolf Tour’s Willow Creek Open in High Point, N.C.
Andrew Yun fired a 6-under 66 to go 11 under (67-66—133) for the tournament and leads by two strokes heading into Friday’s final round.
Vulcan Lee honored in softball
Hawaii Hilo senior outfielder Rebecca Lee was named to the second team of both the Daktronics and NFCA All-America teams. The Mililani High graduate repeated as PacWest Player of the Year, leading the conference in batting average (.504), doubles (18), slugging percentage (.868), on-base percentage (.585) and steals (20).
HPU men headline tennis awards
The Hawaii Pacific men’s tennis team, which finished second nationally at last Saturday’s NCAA D-II Championships, earned three of the four top awards announced by the PacWest Thursday.
HPU senior Petr Michnev repeated as player of the year, finishing 15-2 at No. 1 singles. The ITA West Region Senior of the Year was ranked first in the region and No. 2 nationally in singles.
Sea Warrior sophomore Thibaud Berland was named the PacWest Newcomer of the Year, adding to his ITA National and West Region Rookie of the Year awards. He was named to the All-PacWest second team.
Michnev and Berland were named to the first team in doubles, with a 21-2 record while being ranked No. 1 nationally. Former HPU standout Hendrik Bode was named PacWest Coach of the Year with the Sea Warriors finishing 23-1.
Also named to the first team in doubles were Sea Warriors Mattis Wetzel and Jaume Martinez-Vich.
BYUH juniors Yevhen Zakharova and Martin Chojnaki were named to the first team for both singles and as a doubles tandem.
BYUH dominates PacWest women awards
The eight-time conference champion Brigham Young-Hawaii women’s tennis team earned six All-PacWest honors and swept the individual awards announced Thursday.
Named coach of the year for the seventh consecutive season was Dave Porter. The third-ranked Seasiders went 26-1 with the lone defeat coming in the first round of the NCAA D-II Championships.
Sophomore Nannan Zhang won the player and newcomer of the year awards. Min Liu was named freshman of the year, with the lone singles defeat in 14 matches coming in the NCAA tournament.

Partners Marietta Tuionetoa and Marika Kobayashi were named to the first team in doubles and second team in singles for the Seasiders.
Hawaii Pacific’s Karen Ramirez-Rivera earned first-team singles honors. Sea Warriors named to the second team were Celina Goetti and Magdalena Smejova, while Lorena Gheorghe was named to the third team. Ramirez-Rivera and Goetti were named to the second team in doubles, and Smejova and Gheorghe to the third team.
Chaminade extends Bovaird’s contract
Chaminade men’s basketball coach Eric Bovaird signed a two-year contract extension through the 2016-17 season.
Bovaird is 49-38 in his three years, with a 48-27 record against NCAA D-II opponents. The Silverswords were 19-13 last season, winning their first PacWest tournament title with a second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division II Championship Tournament.
